The Department of Meteorology has reported a low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal, located southeast of Sri Lanka. This system is approximately 930 kilometers from Pottuvil. As a result, residents can expect heavy rain or thundershowers, strong winds reaching 50-60 kilometers per hour, and rough seas. The Meteorology Department is closely watching this situation. They have advised the naval and fishing communities to stay alert for updates and warnings. Additionally, from tomorrow, June 17, increased rainfall is anticipated in the Northern, Northcentral, Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces. Showers are also expected in these areas and the Hambantota district. Some places in the Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces, as well as the Polonnaruwa district, could see heavy rain exceeding 100 mm. After 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, showers or thundershowers are likely to occur in various locations across the country.
