Former Minister Manusha Nanayakkara has decided to withdraw his Fundamental Rights petition from the Supreme Court. He had filed this petition to stop his arrest by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the South Korean visa matter. The Supreme Court reviewed the case today, the 19th, with a three-judge panel led by Justice S. Thurairaja. During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General and President’s Counsel Lakmali Karunanayake, representing the respondents, informed the court that they had submitted limited objections relevant to the case. An affidavit from the Director of the CID, Shani Abeysekara, was also presented by the respondents. As the petition was discussed, President’s Counsel Saliya Pieris, representing Nanayakkara, told the court that the CID had informed the Magistrate’s Court that his client would not be arrested at this time. Due to this update, he requested the Supreme Court to allow the withdrawal of the petition. The bench agreed to this request and granted permission to withdraw it, as reported by an Ada Derana court correspondent.
