A bus driver from the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), linked to the Kebithigollewa Depot, has received a one-year sentence of rigorous imprisonment for causing a fatal accident. The driver was found guilty of operating a bus that was not roadworthy on a narrow road, which led to someone's death. The Kebithigollewa Magistrate’s Court also imposed a fine of Rs. 15,000 and ordered the driver to pay Rs. 500,000 in compensation to the victim's family, according to a report from Ada Derana. This case stemmed from an incident that took place on July 8, 2017. The driver faced five charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and reckless driving of an unfit bus leading to death. After delivering the verdict, the court confirmed the driver’s guilt and imposed the prison sentence, the fine, and the compensation. Additionally, the court suspended the driver’s license for one year, as noted by the Ada Derana correspondent.
