The Railway Department of Sri Lanka is set to restart several train services, including night mail trains from Colombo Fort to Trincomalee and Batticaloa. These services were halted because of Cyclone “Ditwah.” The Department announced that the night mail train from Colombo Fort to Trincomalee will begin operating again on January 20. The Pulathisi Intercity Express, which travels between Colombo Fort and Batticaloa, will also restart its daily service on the same date. Furthermore, the Udaya Devi train service is expected to resume following the cyclone's impact, according to the Department. In addition, repair work on the Northern Railway Line, which suffered damage from the cyclone, will start on January 19, funded by a grant from the Indian government. As a result, train services on the Northern Line will only run between Colombo Fort and Maho until further notice. The Railway Department will provide an updated schedule for train services after the reconstruction work is completed.
