The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has introduced a new program to help meet this year’s national tourism goals. SLTDA Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam mentioned that they will run marketing campaigns in European countries to draw in tourists during the usual “off-peak” times. He pointed out that many travelers from Spain and nearby areas often visit during the summer, so these markets will be a focus for their promotions. Additionally, a tourism promotion effort has already started in India, targeting major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai. Hewawasam explained that the main aim of this plan is to widen the Indian tourist base and bring high-value visitors to Sri Lanka. He also noted a strong start to the year, with over 94,000 tourists arriving in Sri Lanka in the first week of January 2026.
