Train services between Maho Junction and Anuradhapura railway stations will pause for renovation work, according to Minister of Transport Bimal Rathnayake. Starting from January 19 until March 31, trains traveling from Colombo Fort Railway Station on the Northern Railway Line will only reach Maho Junction. This 70-day suspension will allow for upgrades to the railway track, as stated by the Minister. However, trains will still run between Anuradhapura and Kankesanthurai stations during this time. Additionally, restoration work on the Northern and Talaimannar railway lines began today, November 11. The launch event was held at Maho Junction Railway Station, attended by Minister Bimal Rathnayake and Santosh Jha, the High Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka. These railway lines suffered significant damage due to Cyclone Ditwah. The restoration will be supported by a US$ 5 million grant from the Indian government, as reported by the Ministry of Transport.
