Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian claimed that the United States and Israel are trying to create chaos in Iran by inciting riots. He urged the Iranian people to avoid involvement with "rioters and terrorists." In a speech on Sunday (Jan 11), Pezeshkian reassured citizens that their government will listen to their needs and warned that disturbances should not be allowed to disrupt society. He stated, “The people should not let rioters disturb society. They should trust that we want to bring about justice,” during a broadcast on state media IRIB. In parliament, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf cautioned the United States against making a “miscalculation.” He declared, “Let us be clear: if there is an attack on Iran, the occupied territories [Israel] as well as all US bases and ships will be legitimate targets.” Qalibaf, who previously served as a commander in Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, echoed Pezeshkian’s sentiments. Pezeshkian accused the US and Israel of directing the “rioters” from outside the country, claiming that those who once attacked Iran are now telling protesters to cause unrest. “America and Israel are sitting there, teaching them: ‘Go ahead, we are here too,’” he remarked. He also alleged that terrorists brought from other countries are committing violent acts, including setting fire to mosques and beheading people, which he condemned as unacceptable. The president urged young people not to be misled by these “rioters and terrorists” and emphasized that the government will address their real concerns. “People have worries; we should meet with them, and if it's our duty, we should resolve their issues,” Pezeshkian said. “However, our primary responsibility is to prevent a group of rioters from destroying the whole society,” he stated in an interview with Iranian state television. Speaking publicly for the first time since protests began, which reportedly resulted in over 100 deaths due to the regime’s crackdown, Pezeshkian also introduced an economic plan aimed at easing the hardships faced by Iranians as the country struggles under sanctions.
