Who are the MPs that obtained money from PTL?

Who are the MPs that obtained money from Perpetual Treasuries Limited or their associated companies? Those who claim to have the information are yet to disclose these details before the public. Therefore, News 1st team decided to pose the question to the MPs themselves.

It was MP Dayasiri Jayasekera who first accepted that he received money from a company of the Perpetual Group and went on to say more MPs had obtained money from that enterprise. Later Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka accepted he obtained 100,000 rupees from the Perpetual Group.

Arjuna Ranatunga, Gamini Jayawickrama Perera, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Ranjan Ramanayake, Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Eran Wickramaratne, Mano Ganesan, Wijith Wijayamuni Zoysa, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam all Ministers and Deputy Ministers as well as Parliamentarian Ranjith De Zoysa have publicly said they did not receive money from the Perpetual Group.

UMP MP S.M.Marikkar, replied to the question saying that she does not know if Arjuna Mahendran is black or white and the names will be revealed when the Speakers releases them.

According to UNP MP Nalin Bandara, he did not associate Aloysius nor was offered money. Further, he stated that he remembers all the Businessmen in the Bingiriya electorate who offered 5000 rupees. MP Nalin added that if one offers 02 or 03 million, he doubts any MP would forget that person and if they had forgotten, then they are suffering from a serious illness.

Minister of Higher Education & Cultural Affairs, Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe stated that he is not involved as he does not have any connectionand with PTL.

State Minister of Provincial Councils & Local Government, Sriyani Wijewickrama stated that she did not receive a cent and that she has not taken money from people to engage in politics,

Deputy Minister of Petroleum Resources Development, Anoma Gamage stated that she did not accept money from anyone.

UNP MP Hirunika Premachandra stated that she has not spoken to anyone and that she doesn’t associate businessmen and that is why they are being sidelined by the top.

UPFA MP Gamini Lokuge also stated that he has no connection with PTL and that he has not obtained anything.

State Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Palitha Range Bandara stated that his hands are clean of receiving money from Perpetual Treasuries. He added that when they come to the 2020 election if there are those who obtained money they can be sent packing

MPs Dinesh Gunawardena and Harshana Rajakaruna did not provide a clear answer to this question.

UNP MP, Harshana Rajakaruna said the issue is not whether money was or not, if a wrong has been done they will not approve it.

Good Governance Activists have called all those who had taken money from various questionable sources to make voluntary disclosures.

Convener of the National Alliance for Lawyers Association, Attorney-at-Law Manoj Gamage stated that recently MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said there are 118 people who obtained money from Arjuna Aloysius, Kasun Palisena, Perpetual Treasuries Limited and from those who accused of the Central Bank bond scam. He added that the people have right to know of all MPs, other politicians, a member from the clergy, a non-governmental organization or state officer who received money from Arjun Aloysius, Kasun Palisena, Perpetual Treasuries Limited and the Perpetual Group during and after the period of the Bond Scam.

Activists say the culpability of those who obtained money will be mitigated by the people at large, if they make public disclosures, prior to the Investigators revealing that information to Court.
