Rainy conditions are expected to increase in the southwestern parts of the island from this evening (02 June)
Rainy weather is set to intensify in the southwestern regions of Sri Lanka starting this evening, June 2, 2026. According to the Department of Meteorology, there will be intermittent showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Some areas may experience heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm. Following 1:00 PM, showers or thundershowers could occur in parts of the Uva province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts. Wind speeds may reach 30-40 km/h at times, particularly over the Western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-central, North-western, and Southern provinces, along with the Trincomalee district. The public is urged to take necessary precautions to avoid damage from sudden strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
