Thursday, 2 March 2006 - 2:21 AM SL Time

Roger Jonsson, father of the Royal Park murder case victim, yesterday told the High Court of Colombo that on July 01, 2005 he received a phone call informing him to get home immediately. But he had not been told that his daughter, Yvonne Jonsson, was found dead on a staircase, till he arrived his apartment.

`Between 11.00 and 12.00 a.m. I received a telephone call, but I was not informed as to what had happened. I came home from office. I parked my car and used the elevator to go up. When I went to Yvonne`s bedroom, my wife and younger daughter were there. They were crying. At the staircase of 19th floor I saw Yvonne`s body laying up side down` he said.

`When the Magistrate came, the body was turned up. I identified it as her`s` he added.

The witness said that he was living in Royal Park with his family since 1998. `I was living in an apartment, at tower B of Royal Park, with My wife, elder daughter Yvonne and younger daughter Karoline. In 2004 Yvonne went to America. She came back in June 2005`, he said.

On June 30, the day before the incident, the witness father had left home around 6.30 a.m. He had returned at about 1.00 p.m. Then he had left home again around seven O` clock. When he returned home at about 8.30 at night, he had seen his two two daughters in the apartment getting ready to go to a party.

`I was told that they were going to Taj Samudra for a party. They had left by the jeep bearing number 19-5757. That vehicle was owned by the company for which I was working`.

`Karoline had come home the next morning. She knocked on the door of our bedroom and said that she had come back. Around 6.00 a.m. in the morning, I awoke and got ready to go to work. Yvonne`s room was closed. I knocked on the door but had no answer. I saw a notice pasted on the door of the kitchen saying `When you come home, wake me`.

Answering the prosecution counsel, the witness said that he had seen the accused early but had no personal relation with him. `I had seen him several times at my apartment. Karoline and he were in the same school.

I had discussed about him with Yvonne also. She had expressed her views`, he said.

The case was put off for today (02).

Deputy Solicitor General Jayantha Jayasuriya, Senior State counsel Haripriya Jayasundra and state Counsel Lakmali Karunanayake appeared for the prosecution. Counsel Hemantha Warnakulasuriya appeared for the aggrieved party.
