SLFP Presidential candidate and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse will not base his decisions as President of Sri Lanka on a fear of going back to war, his campaign organiser, Mangala Samaraweera said yesterday.
Addressing the first news conference following Mr. Rajapakse`s signing of a 12-condition agreement with the JVP, Minister Samaraweera said the future president`s approach to the peace process would be a new one. ?There are all shades of opinion about how to resolve the ethnic conflict, and it is Premier Rajapakse`s decision to consult all these groups and come to a suitable solution?, Mr. Samaraweera said.
He said while the Premier had already declared he was willing to walk that extra mile for peace, the LTTE had yet to agree to even walk an inch. ?The LTTE is yet to give up its demand for a separate state,? the Minister charged.
