Donald Trump will make history as the first sitting president of the United States to have his signature on US banknotes, according to an announcement from the Treasury Department. His signature will be printed alongside that of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. This unique decision is made to celebrate America's 250th anniversary. Bessent stated, “There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than US dollar bills bearing his name.” Traditionally, US banknotes feature the signatures of Treasury officials. This is part of the administration's broader effort to link Trump’s name with various government programs and public structures. The first $100 bills featuring the signatures of Trump and Bessent are set to be printed in June, followed by additional notes later. Currently, the banknotes being produced display the signatures of former President Joe Biden’s Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, and Treasurer Lynn Malerba. Since 1861, the US treasurer's signature has been a standard feature on banknotes, a tradition that will change under Trump's administration. Ahead of the 250th anniversary, Bessent emphasized that printing currency with Trump’s name would be a significant way to honor the historic accomplishments of the nation and its president. Current US Treasurer Brandon Beach affirmed that the nation’s currency will “continue to stand as a symbol of prosperity, strength, and the unshakable spirit of the American people.”
