This morning (23), a meeting took place at the Presidential Secretariat between Prabath Chandrakeerthi, the Chief of Staff to the President of Sri Lanka, and Matthew Duckworth, the Australian High Commissioner. The two officials talked about the strong and lasting ties between Sri Lanka and Australia, as reported by the President’s Media Division (PMD). They paid special attention to the educational and job opportunities that Sri Lankans can find in Australia, discussing these options in detail. The Australian High Commissioner mentioned the close connections between the two countries in education and cricket. Both officials also addressed their mutual goal of tackling human smuggling and drug trafficking in the Indian Ocean region. Additionally, the High Commissioner expressed Australia’s readiness to provide support in areas like education, agriculture, and sustainable development for Sri Lanka. He also pointed out that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has affected Australia too. The meeting was also attended by Ruth Baird, the Deputy High Commissioner of Australia, and Matthew Lord, the Second Secretary.
