Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated in Sri Lanka on Saturday
The Muslim community in Sri Lanka will observe the Eid-ul-Fitr festival on Saturday, March 21. This decision follows the announcement from the Colombo Grand Mosque that the new crescent moon for Shawwal was not seen today, March 19. As a result, the month of Ramadan will conclude with 30 days, leading to the first day of Shawwal being celebrated on Saturday. This was confirmed by the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, the Colombo Grand Mosque, and the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama. Eid al-Fitr, known as the "festival of breaking the fast," signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan. It is a significant religious holiday for Muslims worldwide, filled with celebrations as friends, families, and the broader Muslim community gather together. The festival takes place on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month in the Islamic lunar calendar. The date and timing of Eid can vary in different countries, depending on when the crescent moon is sighted.
