Sri Lanka calls for immediate de-escalation of tensions in Middle East
Sri Lanka is very worried about the quickly growing tensions in the Middle East and West Asia, which are putting civilians in danger, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The country is saddened by the loss of innocent lives and condemns any attacks on civilians and their infrastructure. The Ministry emphasized that protecting civilians is a key responsibility under international humanitarian law. The Foreign Ministry declared, “We are committed to respecting human life and promoting global peace.” The government is carefully watching the situation due to the serious humanitarian crisis and its potential effects on the global economy and international trade, which could impact all nations. The Foreign Minister pointed out that Sri Lanka stresses the importance of following the principles of the UN Charter, which forbids using force against any nation’s territorial integrity or political independence. “As a nation that values the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, Sri Lanka urges all sides to honor these important principles, show maximum restraint, and return to talks to avoid making this serious situation worse,” the Ministry added. Sri Lanka has called on all involved parties to engage in meaningful discussions and take strong steps to reduce tensions, given the serious risks to stability, peace, and security in the region and beyond.
