Sri Lanka achieves significant economic growth in 2025 – Dy Minister
Sri Lanka has shown impressive economic growth in 2025, according to R. M. Jayawardena, the Deputy Minister of Trade, Commerce, and Food Security. He shared this information during the start of the road development project from Maligatenna Junction to the 11th Mile Post in Madugahapitiya, which is part of the Badalkumbura Divisional Secretariat. The Deputy Minister highlighted that the country, once facing bankruptcy, is now progressing through careful development efforts. He explained, “While we stabilize the nation and tackle worldwide economic issues, we are advancing through a focused program. Economic growth is visible across all sectors.” However, the country experienced a setback, losing over Rs. 1 trillion due to a recent disaster. Funds that were meant for development had to be redirected to manage these damages. He mentioned that the government is already working to restore normalcy by providing aid to many disaster-affected individuals. “Our goal as a government is to create ‘A Wealthy Country, A Beautiful Life’ for the people. We will do this by being transparent, avoiding corruption, not wasting public funds, and reducing personal perks,” he stated. On the same day, the Second Integrated Road Investment Program, part of the National Rural Road Development Program by the Ministry of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development, officially began. This program will also improve another road in the Monaragala District of Uva Province, with financial backing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The 11th Mile Post–Madugahapitiya road development will receive Rs. 60 million, enhancing access to the main Badulla–Monaragala (A-22) road and the Pussellawa road.
