US intelligence says Iran government is not at risk of collapse, say sources
U.S. intelligence reports suggest that Iran's government remains stable and is not facing collapse anytime soon, following nearly two weeks of continuous attacks by the U.S. and Israel, according to three sources who asked to remain anonymous. A variety of intelligence findings show a "consistent analysis" indicating that the regime is not in danger and still has control over the Iranian public, as stated by one source. This latest assessment was completed within the last few days. Amid rising oil prices, President Donald Trump has indicated that he may soon end the largest U.S. military operation since 2003. However, reaching an acceptable conclusion to the conflict may be challenging if Iran's hardline leaders continue to hold their positions. The intelligence highlights the unity of Iran's clerical leadership, even after the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28, which was the first day of the U.S. and Israeli strikes. Israeli officials have also recognized in private discussions that it is uncertain whether the war will result in the fall of the clerical government, according to a senior Israeli official speaking to Reuters. The sources noted that the situation is changing and dynamics within Iran could shift. Both the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Central Intelligence Agency did not provide comments, and the White House has not yet responded to requests for information.
