A shooting incident occurred early this morning (07) at the home of Chathurika Weerasuriya, the wife of an alleged organized crime figure known as ‘Batuwatte Chamara’. Around 1:25 a.m., gunmen fired approximately 23 rounds at her residence, located at No. 05, St. Anne’s Road, Weligampitiya, in the Ja-Ela Police Division. The attackers, who arrived on a motorcycle, used a T-56 assault rifle and also shot at two neighboring houses before escaping. Currently, this property is being operated as an elderly care home. Reports indicate that the house was rented out about two months ago for Rs. 125,000 per month because Batuwatte Chamara's wife is living in Dubai. At the time of the shooting, nine elderly residents and four caregivers were present, but fortunately, no one was injured, according to Ada Derana. This house had also been attacked in previous shooting incidents on December 15 and December 24, 2025.
