The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has submitted its report regarding the investigation into nine coal shipments meant for the Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant in Norochcholai. This report, which addresses the controversial coal imports, was given to the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Infrastructure and Strategic Development, following instructions from Committee Chairman Parliamentarian S.M. Marikkar. The PUCSL began its investigation into the import of low-quality coal after receiving a directive from the same committee led by MP Marikkar. The Chairman noted that these coal imports, which did not meet the required quality standards, have caused a financial strain of more than Rs. 1.8 billion on the public. He also mentioned that the poor-quality coal has led to financial losses and raised concerns about the efficiency of the power plants.
