U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that the United States has started “major combat operations” in Iran, cautioning that American lives could be at risk. The airstrikes are aimed at destroying Iranian missiles and eliminating its navy. This action follows multiple warnings from U.S. and Israeli officials that they would strike Iran again if it continued its nuclear and missile programs. In a video posted on Truth Social, Trump stated, “My administration has taken every possible step to minimise the risk to U.S. personnel in the region. Even so, and I do not make this statement lightly, the Iranian regime seeks to kill.” He added, “The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties, which often happens in war, but we’re doing this, not for now. We’re doing this for the future, and it is a noble mission.” According to the Pentagon, the U.S. military operation is called “EPIC FURY,” as shared on X. This marks the second time the U.S. has conducted strikes on Iran since Trump returned to office last year, with the first set of attacks occurring in June against Iranian nuclear sites. Unlike the previous strikes, Saturday’s operations are expected to continue for several days, a U.S. official told Reuters. In response, Tehran is preparing for retaliation, and an Iranian official warned that the response would be severe. The Israeli military reported that Iran had launched missiles towards Israel as a reaction.
