Police have captured the second gunman linked to the double murder of a lawyer and his wife in Akuregoda. The arrest took place today, on the 24th, in Hulandawa, Monaragala, according to police reports. This arrest was made during a special operation by the Monaragala Police. The suspect is now in custody and is being questioned further. Authorities are using a facial recognition system to confirm if this person is indeed the second shooter in the Akuregoda case. The first gunman was arrested earlier on February 21 in Ambalangoda. Investigators revealed that he is a former Army soldier who was discharged legally during the general amnesty in 2009. The tragic shooting occurred on February 13 when Attorney-at-Law Buddhika Mallawaarachchi and his wife were killed in a supermarket parking lot in Thalangama, Akuregoda. In response to this incident, the Inspector General of Police ordered the formation of 12 police teams to carry out the investigations.
