PUCSL to begin public consultations on proposed electricity tariff hike today
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) is set to begin public consultation sessions today, February 20, which will run until March 18. These sessions are part of the discussion on the Ceylon Electricity Board’s (CEB) proposal to change electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026. The PUCSL invites the public to share their thoughts and suggestions, both verbally and in writing, during this time. The consultations will take place across all nine provinces. After the sessions end, the PUCSL will make a decision on the proposed tariff change, taking into account the public feedback and other important factors. The CEB submitted its request to the PUCSL on February 13, asking for a 13.56% increase in electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026, which would take effect from April 1 to June 30. Earlier, the CEB had also sought an 11.57% increase for the first quarter of 2026, but this request was not approved by the PUCSL. Public submissions can be sent to the address for “Public Consultation on the Second Electricity Tariff Revision for 2026” at the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka.
