A bus traveling from Nildandhahinna to Teripaha in Walapane faced a serious situation today (01) when its driver successfully halted the vehicle just before it could go over a 50-foot cliff. The bus, which is part of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Walapane Depot, experienced a mechanical issue while navigating a sharp turn in the Rasingolla area. At that moment, there were about 40 passengers on board. The driver reported, “The bus made a loud noise while going through the first bend. I quickly used the handbrake and brought the bus to a stop.” He looked down and saw the steep drop beneath. Upon inspection, he discovered that the bus’s joint had broken in two. After notifying the depot, they replaced the joint, and the bus was sent for repairs. The driver, who has worked at the Walapane Depot for 15 years, noted that the road is still tough to drive on, especially due to damage from Cyclone Ditwah. “Driving on this road is still very challenging,” he stated.
