Police apprehend five suspects in series of vehicle thefts

Police have arrested five people linked to a series of vehicle thefts, which include cars, three-wheelers, and motorcycles. One suspect, a 44-year-old man from Yatagala, was caught in Uragasmanhandiya with a stolen car and 6.235 grams of crystal methamphetamine, known as ‘Ice.’ Authorities found that he was involved in stealing two three-wheelers from Elpitiya and Baddegama, as well as two motorcycles from the Homagama area. He has been brought before the Elpitiya Magistrate’s Court and will stay in custody for seven days. In a separate case, four suspects aged 23 to 28, all from Ratmalana, were taken into custody by the Western Province South Crime Division. They are accused of stealing a three-wheeler on December 12, 2025, in Piliyandala. The stolen vehicle has been recovered, and investigations are still ongoing.
