The Sri Lankan government is set to launch a new digital platform aimed at improving the planning and monitoring of development projects in villages. This initiative is part of the ‘Prajashakthi National Movement,’ according to a statement from the President’s Media Division (PMD). For the year 2026, the national budget has allocated around Rs. 180 billion for rural development. Community Development Councils at the local level will be responsible for identifying priorities and creating comprehensive village development plans, as noted by the PMD. The digital platform is designed to standardize how projects are identified, enhance decisions based on data, and ensure that funds are utilized in a more efficient and transparent manner, explained Dr. Nandika Kumanayake, the Secretary to the President. The PMD mentioned that the government aims for this digital system to improve coordination, speed up project execution, and provide more lasting benefits to rural communities across Sri Lanka.
