“We are ready to step down when people decide on a change” - PM Harini

Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, announced that she is willing to resign as Prime Minister if the people of Sri Lanka decide a change is needed. She shared these thoughts after returning to the island this morning (23) following her participation in the 2026 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Upon arriving at Parliament this afternoon for a debate, Prime Minister Harini stated, “They could not remove the President. Then they tried to remove the Prime Minister. So where is it? I rushed back this morning, ready for the no-confidence motion. I am still waiting. Is it not going to happen? We were prepared.” She added, “There is no need for a no-confidence motion. When the people of this country decide it’s time for a new Prime Minister, we are ready to step aside. We are responsible to the citizens of Sri Lanka, and we will keep working accordingly.”
