The government is working on providing pensions for employees in both the private and semi-government sectors, according to Deputy Minister of Labor Mahinda Jayasinghe. Speaking in Parliament today (23), he explained, “I made it clear what the differences are between the EPF and ETF funds. I never said we would turn the EPF into a pension. That was reported incorrectly.” He emphasized that the EPF is still a social security fund, and noted that the government aims to create a separate pension plan for workers in these sectors. “I did not say the EPF would be changed into a pension,” he emphasized again.
