US President Donald Trump informed Norway's prime minister that he no longer felt the need to focus solely on peace after not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. This message was shared on Monday. Trump expressed his wish for the United States to take over Greenland, which is an autonomous territory of Denmark, claiming this would benefit global peace. He stated, "Since your country chose not to award me the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping 8 wars, I no longer feel bound to think only of peace," in a message directed at Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store. While he acknowledged that peace would remain a key concern, he noted he could now consider what is best for the United States. Store's office confirmed the message's authenticity in an email to AFP. In his response, Store emphasized that the Nobel Peace Prize is not given by the Norwegian government. "I have made it clear, including to President Trump, that the prize is awarded by an independent Nobel Committee," Store remarked. Additionally, Trump reiterated his interest in Greenland, a point that has caused concern around the world. He stated, "Denmark cannot defend that land from Russia or China."
