The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) conducted a raid on a fuel station in Beruwala for allegedly hiding fuel supplies and charging higher prices while claiming that Octane 92 petrol was not available. The CAA received reports that some fuel stations in Sri Lanka were selling Euro 3 petrol during the night while telling customers that Octane 92 petrol was out of stock, leading to difficulties for vehicle owners. Acting on this information, CAA officers from the Kalutara District carried out a surprise inspection at a major fuel station in Beruwala last night (14). During the check, they found almost 6,400 litres of Octane 92 petrol stored away and not sold to customers. Workers at the fuel station said that company officials had told them to sell Euro 3 petrol at night by insisting that Octane 92 was unavailable. Further investigations are ongoing, and the hidden petrol has been taken and sealed by CAA officials. Legal action is set to be initiated against the suspects at the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (15).
