Sri Lanka needs to change the goals set with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as part of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), according to Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL). In a discussion on TV Derana’s current affairs program 360° last night (12), Dr. Weerasinghe mentioned that a meeting on this matter is expected when an IMF team visits later this month. The IMF team is arriving in Sri Lanka to conduct the fifth review of the 48-month Extended Fund Facility. The CBSL Governor pointed out that it is necessary to adjust the targets due to unexpected incidents like Cyclone Ditwah, which significantly damaged the country's infrastructure and affected the people’s lives. He emphasized that the annual budget planned before the cyclone and other factors should be considered when setting targets during the upcoming EFF review.
