The price of paddy will rise starting with the next season, according to Deputy Minister of Agriculture Namal Karunaratne. He mentioned that prices for Samba and Keeri Samba paddy varieties will also be increased. However, he assured that rice prices will remain unchanged. Deputy Minister Karunaratne explained, “We have discussed changing the prices of paddy. Currently, the price for Nadu paddy is Rs. 120. The price for Samba paddy will go up from Rs. 125 to Rs. 130, and Keeri Samba will increase from Rs. 132 to Rs. 140, which will help the farmers.” Farmers can expect to sell their paddy at these new prices starting next season. He also pointed out that in the past, a rice mafia operated during this time, but steps have been taken to stop such practices.
