Sri Lanka Customs has achieved a record revenue of Rs. 2,497 billion so far in 2025, surpassing its updated annual goal, according to Chandana Punchihewa, the Customs Media Spokesperson and Director. The Ministry of Finance originally aimed for a revenue target of Rs. 2,115 billion for 2025. This target was exceeded by November, leading to a new target of Rs. 2,231 billion, which has also been surpassed. Punchihewa shared with the media that the rise in revenue is due to various internal strategies introduced by Sri Lanka Customs, along with the restart of vehicle imports. He mentioned that the previous year's revenue target was Rs. 1,531 billion, and the 2025 target was raised significantly because of the decision to allow vehicle imports. "Vehicle imports played a key role in exceeding the revenue goal, along with the different strategies implemented by Customs," he stated.
