This morning, four Sri Lankans, including two women, were taken into custody by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake. They were caught trying to smuggle over 20 kilograms of “Kush” cannabis, valued at more than Rs. 200 million. The suspects had bought the drugs in Bangkok, Thailand, and traveled to Mumbai, India, before arriving at BIA at 7:50 a.m. today (29) on an Indigo Airlines flight. The two women are from Borella and Orugodawatta, while the two men are from Dematagoda and Orugodawatta. Authorities found around 20 kilograms and 684 grams of “Kush” cannabis hidden in 20 packages inside their luggage, as reported by an Ada Derana journalist. The arrest happened after the Airport PNB unit received a tip-off. The four suspects and the confiscated drugs will be presented in front of the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today.
