The Panadura North Police have taken seven young men into custody for participating in illegal motorcycle races that involved betting. The suspects, aged between 18 and 22, reside in Moratuwa, Egodauyana, and Panadura. Their arrests came after several local residents complained about loud motorcycle races occurring at night on the Old Galle Road. People reported that these races created a serious public disturbance due to the noise. In response to the complaints, police conducted a focused operation by setting up roadblocks on Jubilee Road and nearby parts of the Old Galle Road. During this operation, officials seized four motorcycles and arrested the seven individuals. The police noted that the motorcycles had modified silencers and were marked for identification during the races. The suspects are set to appear in front of the Panadura Magistrate’s Court, and the Panadura North Police are continuing their investigation.
