A member of the Puttalam Pradeshiya Sabha from the National People’s Power (NPP) was arrested by Mundalama Police early this morning (26) for allegedly threatening a female Grama Niladhari officer. The accused represents the Mangalaeliya Division in the Puttalam Pradeshiya Sabha. According to the Grama Niladhari officer's complaint, the event occurred on December 5. She reported that while riding her motorcycle for disaster management duties, she collided with a small truck driven by the Pradeshiya Sabha member. At the accident scene, she claimed he verbally attacked her. The officer later informed the Mundalama Divisional Secretary about the incident. She also accused the Pradeshiya Sabha member of further harassment over the phone on December 8, after a meeting of the Disaster Committee. This morning, he turned himself in to Mundalama Police after a summons was issued concerning the complaint. He is expected to appear before the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court.
