A supplementary budget of Rs. 500 billion will be presented to the Parliament of Sri Lanka tomorrow, December 18. This funding is intended to help restore the livelihoods of people affected by the recent disaster. The Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarauriya, requested this move. According to the Secretary-General of Parliament, Kushani Rohanadeera, the Parliament will meet on Thursday (December 18) and again on Friday (December 19). This decision was made during a meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business today, chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, as stated by the Department of Communications of Parliament. On Thursday, Parliament will start at 9:30 a.m. The Rs. 500 billion supplementary budget for the year 2026 will be introduced and then sent to the Committee on Public Finance. After that, there will be an Adjournment Debate initiated by the Government regarding the current situation in the country following the severe weather disaster, which is expected to continue until 5:30 p.m. On Friday, the Parliament will also meet from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., where the supplementary budget will be discussed and voted on.
