LNP – Change in top police positions: 64 transferred, 19 promoted

A total number of 64 senior police officers including seven Senior DIGs and five DIGs have been transferred, while 19 senior officers were promoted by IGP Chandana Wickramaratne with immediate effect.

The transferred were approved by the secretary to the Ministry of Public Security under the cover approval of the National Police Commission (NPC)

Police said the transferred Senior DIGs included Nilantha Jayawardena (as SDIF Admin), W.L.S. Priyantha Weerasuriya (from Senior DIG North to SDIG Central), P.P.S.M. Dharmaratne (SDIG Central to SDIG Sabaragamuwa), Sajeewa Medawatta, W.K. Jayalath (frm SDIG North to SID Eastern), M.D.R.S. Daminda (from SDIG East to SDIG North) and K.P.M. Gunaratne.

In addition, Crimes DIG P. Liyanage has been transferred and posted as DIG in charge of Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) while DIG in charge of PNB J.A.U.P. Jayasinghe was transferred as DIG Nuwara Eliya Division.

Police said 23 Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)s, eight Superintendent of Police (SP)s, 21 Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP)s including two women ASPs were transferred.

Meanwhile, six SSPs were promoted as DIGs and 13 SPs have been promoted to the rank of SSP.
