LNP – Rise in demand for donations from parents after children enroll in schools: Stalin

A critical situation has arisen in schools as school managements demand parents to provide donations soon after their children enrol in schools, the Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU) said.

CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin said most of the schools have requested parents to provide the schools with some kind of donation for taking their children to school.

The circular which is issued on the enrollment of children in schools clearly mentions that no donations should be obtained from the school administration under the free education system from parents after enrolling in schools.

Forcing parents to donate is completely wrong, he said.

When inquired with the Education Ministry, the Ministey requested that parents who are under pressure to provide donations should inform the Ministry as soon as possible.

They said legal action will be taken against the schools.

The Ministry said no demands can be made on parents after children enrol in schools.
