Wesley go out firm favourites against depleted Rajans
Wesley College will go out as firm favourites when they lock horns against depleted Dharmaraja College Kandy in their first round Singer ‘A’ Division inter-schools league rugby encounter at CR & FC grounds, Longden Place today at 4.15pm.
Wesley after their loss against St. Peter’s College Bambalapitiya (17-33) won their first match for the season beating D.S. Senanayake College (5-nil) and Zahira College (26-7) before losing narrowly to Isipathana College (17-22) in a very close game.
Wesley are packed with some outstanding players in their ranks, such as their captain cum hardy number eight Dayan Sabar, Mursheed Doray, centre Sahan Hansaja, Dexter Goonethilake and Theekshana Vithange, all of whom are match winners. But they should get their act together if they are to pull off their third win for the season against an unpredictable Dharmaraja outfit.
Wesley this year are coached by veteran Samoan Paul Toiya.
Meanwhile the Rajans under the watchful eyes of their head coach Kapila Silva, (who is also the manager of Kandy Sports Club) are captained by experienced player and number eight Bhawantha Udangamuwa (who is also this year’s Dharmaraja College 1st XI cricket captain and brother of Kandy SC number eight Buwaneka Udangamuwa).
The Rajans will know that losing their fifth consecutive game could mean somewhat of a setback for them in the league tournament as they have already got them self-demoted to “B” Division having previously lost to Isipathana College (14-42) and St.Peter’s College by 5-42, D.S.Senanayake College 10-38 and Zahira College Colombo 8-26.
Hence they will come out with their best outfit for this game, with players of the caliber of skipper Bawantha Udangamuwa, Supun Wijesiri, Malintha Rajapakse, Harsha Rodrigo, Chanidu Abeyratna, Adeesha Dissanayake, Jatila Kapuwatta and Rahal Wanigasekara and will go out with all guns blazing to try and topple Wesley.
