Court orders arrest of IUSF convener et al

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandara yesterday (11) ordered the Cinnamon Gardens Police to arrest nine suspects, including the Convener of the Inter-University Students Federation (IUSF) Lahiru Weerasekera and to produce them in Court.

Arrest warrants were issued on the suspects, Lahiru Weerasekera, Isaru Indika, Amila Sandaruwan, Dhanuja Chinthaka, Suresh Lakmal, Sameera Indranath, Athma Priyadharshana, Indika Dharmawardena and K.M. Priyadharshana.

The Court issued this order when these suspects did not appear in Court yesterday.

These students of the IUSF are charged with illegally going in a procession and staging protests under the slogan ‘Janapavura’ against the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine on 16 May, 2017, causing public unrest as well as harassment to the public.
