Police say the driving license of the Royal College student who drove the ill-fated cab, in 12th Sunday,accident in Rajagiriya is yet to be produced.

However, the student who had driven the cab had said that he has a license. He is receiving treatment at Colombo National Hospital.

One student was killed and 9 others sustained injuries when a cab skidded off the road and hit a wall in Rajagiriya early morning yesterday.

The funeral of the deceased A/L student was held last evening.

The students were returning home in two vehicles when the tragedy struck.

A prayer service and bodhi pooja were held yesterday (14) in remembrance of the Royal College student who was killed in a motor vehicle accident and for the speedy recovery of the students who sustained injuries in the same accident.

A prayer service was held at the Good Shepherd Church, Jawatte by the Student Christian Movement of Royal College, and a bodhi pooja was held at the Bellanwila Temple. In addition to this, the Grade 12/13 students of Royal College held a bodhi pooja on 13 November at the Gangarama Temple at Nawam Mawatha in remembrance of their deceased classmate and for the speedy recovery of the students who sustained injuries.

A schoolboy was killed and seven others sustained injuries when a vehicle veered off the road and hit a construction site in Rajagiriya on 12 November. The students were returning home from school after helping out with the final arrangements of the school media carnival, which was to be held later in the day, when the accident occurred. The injured students were rushed to the National Hospital.

An investigation revealed that the students were speeding when the accident occurred.

According to reliable sources, three of the students are still in critical condition. One of them is on life support.

The Principal of Royal College postponed all school events that were to be held this week as a mark of respect.
