The Voice Against Corruption (VAC) is scheduled to provide the country’s media with a hitherto unheard of piece of evidence with regard to the Central Bank Treasury Bonds scam.
Convener of the VAC, Janatha Vimukithi Peramuna Member Wasantha Samarasinghe previously claimed that his organization was in the possession of a recording, which they had received from overseas, that would reveal as to who had given instructions for loans to be released to primary bidder…… Perpetual Treasuries Private Limited, those who had been the recipients of the said instructions and who else was involved.
The evidence in audio format is reported to consist of a tele-conference between representatives of the Perpetual Treasuries and several noted financial institutions including two State banks. The conversation is reported to have taken place on 27 February 2015 which was also the day the Central Bank accepted 10 times in excess of the advertised bonds, also at a higher than expected rate.
According to Samarasinghe, at one stage in the said recorded conversation, one of the participants advises the others to “bring along a suicide capsule” when they do the trade.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry investigating the issuance of Treasury bonds, Sumathipala Udugamasuriya added that any interested party could provide any material evidence to the Commission, subsequent to which the Commission would make a judgment call on as to what should be done with regard to the said evidence.
