ASIA RUGBY 7s: Sri Lanka fails at last hurdle

The National Sevens Rugby Team failed to qualify for the finals of the Third leg of the 2017 Asian Rugby Sevens Tournament following a 12-26 defeat at the hands of a strong Hong Kong side a short while ago.

The Tuskers trailed the visitors 05-19 at lemons and could not penetrate the power defence of the Hong Kong sevens unit.

Earlier, Sri Lanka managed to beat Malaysia by 22-05 to qualify for the semi-finals. The National team led by Sudharshana Muthuthanthri however is on course to finish at least fourth in the Colombo tournament- bettering the two fifth place finishes in the opening legs in Hong Kong and South Korea.

Sri Lanka will now take on South Korea in the Third place play-off game while Asian heavyweights Japan will take on Hong Kong in the Grand final.

Japan qualified for the finals after beating Korea by 15-10 in the semis. Japan also won the opening leg of the 2017 Asia Rugby Sevens tournament.
