Pakistan assure Presidential level security for Sri Lanka team

Pakistan has assured security similar to what is given to the Heads of State when they come down for the last T-20 International between the countries later this month. The third and final T-20 International has been scheduled for Lahore in a bid to revive international cricket in Pakistan.

There has been little cricket in Pakistan since the Sri Lankan team bus came under a terrorist attack in 2009.

“I am confident that the third T-20 will take place in Lahore subject to security clearance. My message to the Sri Lankan team is that we will provide you with Presidential level security,” former Pakistani opener Talat Ali, who is the Manager of the Pakistan cricket team, told ‘The Island’.

“The World XI team was in Pakistan recently and they couldn’t believe the security they were given. The visit by Sri Lanka will open the gates for many other teams to visit Sri Lanka as well. The relationship between our countries is excellent,” Ali added.

Talat Ali played ten Tests for Pakistan between 1972 to 1979. He toured Sri Lanka before the country had gained Test status to play unofficial Tests when Michael Tissera was captaining Sri Lanka.
