Namal summoned to H’tota Police HQ today

United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa and two Provincial Council members were given a written notice to appear before the Hambantota Police Headquarters today (10).

MP Rajapaksa arrived at the Hambantota Police Headquarters to give a statement yesterday (9) over the protest staged in the area last Friday.

The Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said, that MP Rajapaksa along with Parliamentarian D.V. Chanaka,……Southern Provincial Council members Upali Kodikara and Sampath Athukorala and Attorney Ajith Prasanna were summoned to Police to record statements over the unrest that took place during a protest held in Hambantota.

Furthermore, he added that they were asked to come again today to give a statement. According to the Police, nine individuals sustained injuries while 28 suspects were arrested for unruly behaviour during the protest. The suspects were thus remanded till 16 October on charges of damaging public property and disobeying a Court injunction.

The protest was organized by the Joint Opposition demanding the government to refrain from selling State assets to foreign entities.
