Country will not dance to the tune of trade unions – Nalin Bandara

United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Nalin Bandara states that the Petroleum Trade Unions’ Collective is taking action with the intention of subjecting the Government to discomfort, and added that the trade unions had by now become a political instrument.

He expressed these sentiments upon attending a media briefing at the UNP headquarters, Sirikotha, today (27).

The Parliamentarian stated that the trade unions had started off by opposing the fuel tanks in Trincomalee and that they had by now changed their tune to bring up the fuel tanks in Hambantota to merely put the Government in a difficult situation.

Further, he added that the Hambantota fuel tanks were under the Ports Authority, and that as such, they had no right to speak up on those.

Adding on, he then stated that those who did not even know about the existence of these fuel tanks were now attempting to talk about them.

The country will not dance to the tune of trade unions, he said.

Nalin Bandara then added that the trade unions’ underlying motives were revealed by the fact that they did not behave in this manner during the Rajapaksa regime.
