He was surprised that the UNP which remained silent when Muslims were driven out of Muthur at the height of LTTE terror, now talking of problems of the community and that as in the past he was committed to safeguarding all interest of Sri Lankan citizens.
He still remembers the service rendered by late President R Premadasa to alleviate poverty but today s leaders of the UNP were trampling the rights and interest of the less privileged dishonouring late R Premadasa s programmes for the poor remarked the President.
