Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero.

Incumbant of Kotte Nagaviharaya Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero has requested the President to release Gen. Sarath Fonseka and in place of him imprison hundred Bhikkus including him. Ven. Sobitha Thero said this at a press conference held by the `National Bhikku Front` in Colombo today.

Speaking further Ven. Sobitha said, Sarath Fonseka is a fearless commander, a hero. A person who has not committed any wrong would never ask for pardon. We know that even if he dies in the prison having his meals from a tin plate he would never ask for pardon. Even we would not ask for pardon in such circumstances.

Hence, we, as the Maha Sangha, make an affectionate request from the President. Release the Great War hero who brought a great victory to the Motherland. Instead, sentence hundred Bhikkus including me to rigorous imprisonment for life. We are ready for such a sentence.

This has been the tradition in Sri Lanka too for thousands of years. Though i strictly believe the State should be purely secular ,in this instance the Govt. should listen to the clergies . If not the only hope lies with the Judiciary to tame the too powerful government.

BTW it is wrong to say Ayubowan to a buddhist monk by a layman :)

It looks like things are getting out of hand and the Clergies are
requesting the King to undo what is wrong.

I think rather than being emotional and confine this to just a political problem is wrong. rather we should see the threat of mentally unstable fonseka being used and trying to be used as tool against the state and using him to destabilize the country. its a pity what has happened to a great man but as a country we cant just take any risks with him any more! - Kaush

Very true. Unfortunately, Our people come to these meeting with sticks and stones. Constructive criticisms and discussions hardly happen. Promises will be given but none kept.

Emp, Forget about the Judiciary. Its corrupt to its core.

Its hard to contemplate the situ in the next few days. Gota wants SF to say I am sorry , or something to that extent. A 4 Star General with a service record like Gen. Fonseka will never bow down to anybody. Never to a MIA soldier like Gota.

I'm sprised by actions of SF supporters, including ven Madulwawe Sobitha, do they think the rest of the country are idiots?

Its suprising to see that non of these people who plead for SF's release (including you lalith) are not pleading SF, NOT TO BETRAY OUR TROOPS at international tribunals.

SF has said this over and over again, even a few weeks ago, but non of those SF supporters have asked them not to do it.

Lalith, you are an intelligent man, why dont you take the initiative and start a petition amoung SF supporters asking him not to betray our troops at international tribunals.

And why are you guys silent on it? Do you want hundres of soldiers who faught the war including Shavindra Silva, Jagath Dias and Gota to be hanged by war crimes tribunals?

If not stop talking gibberish and insulting our intelligence, go and ask your man to stop threatening to betray others who faught the war at internatinal kangaroo courts.

By the way I remmber SF said he has given some sealed envelops to some media guys and some other high profile figurs, to be opened and released to media, if some harm come to him. Which are supposed to expose criminal wrongdoings by Rajapaksha brothers (he said it).

I'm wondering where are those letters, if not now when. Lalith are you a recipient of those emails? Why dont you releae it, if not start a campaign here in your page with your peers asking the recipents to release them.

Lets get them sons of b!1c85 these Rajapakshas.

SF, conducted a brilliant campaign. The Ranaviruwas got the best of everything and best intelligence, best commands to conduct successful trench warfare.

The Arm chair worriers only read the reports from the battle front and having cool one At the end of the day. I know the Director of Plans for the Finals push and one can never find such dedicated and loyal soldiers who never abandon their post and ran away for greener pastures.

May be that why that mentally stable person want to hang SF even before these court cases were over.

Do you beleive that gota dindt serve enough during the time he was in the army.

Do you know that he was in Operation liberation?

Ok you call leaving the country when the war was political game a betrayel of our forces.

Then what do you call threatening to give evidence against our troops at international tribunals? Super patriotism?

Answer the question directly sir, is it right for SF to say that he 'will give evidence at international tribunals'?

Dont insult our intelligence, we also love our country and people who sacrificed to keep it safe, while we enjoyed safety and pleasureful lives. But what is wrong is wrong.

so let me get this straight so you are saying
'leaving the army after serving for 15+ years including 10+ years in the war front, is equal or a worse betrayal than threatening to betray your fellow soldiers, who fought with their life on the line at international tribunals?


Well then good luck brother. I'm not that intelligent as you, you are really of a different class that we laymen cant understand.
