There are more serious issues to be tackled in the agriculture sector than going behind the buffalos at Wap Magul ceremonies, Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs Dr. Sarath Amunugama told The Island yesterday. He said it was more important to ensure that the farmer got a reasonable price for his produce and that subsidised fertilisers were used for actual paddy production instead of being leaked to the black market.
The major problem was the deteriorating standards of research institutions in Sri Lanka. he said.
`It is vital to get back to the basics and more fundamental issues than the usual symbolic issues,` he said.

Buffaloes knows only to follow the same of their kind.
If policy makers and planers are doing the job and they are given the proper authority with rules, regulations and guidelines to the adminstrators this type of shows to the gallery is not required.
225 in the Parliament with 100+ call them ministers does not know their job. Therefore they have to show their to buffalo voter community through the media following real buffaloes. |

| In a Wap Magul, Buffalos follow where they are being led to, but Mr. Minister, the problem is the ministers in the govt don't follow the rules. So in a way to get something into their (ministers) brains, at least by practice, it would be prudent have some Wap Magul and go behind the Buffalos once in while. |

Sri Lanka is years back in storage packing and preservations for seasonal foods.
No government is taking the advice of Agrarian Experts.

| Sri Lankan govt should consider opening some shops through Sathosa or Marketing Dept to sell products in the middle east. There is a substantial Sri Lankan Community there and opening of shops in strategic locations may allow local small time entrepreneurs to market their products/foods in the region. |

| Hon. Minister is absolutely correct. The collection center in Dambulla you could see piles and piles of decaying Vegetables etc. Due to fuel crisis transport is almost stand still. The villager now is feeling the pinch, because he cannot sell his products. To survive he sells his quota of fertilizer to the black market. |

Honestly no! I can check on it though. I will come back to you soonest. One thing I know for sure AGD is worse than a Keera Kotuwa. In a Pol mess. Like our former CJ Mohan is up to his own tricks. Divide and rule policy. Haven't you heard? |
