This price hike is nothing to do with the war Shammie, it`s to do with world mrket prices. The gas consumption has gone up all over the world. Countries like our will face more of it cos we can`t afford to pay high prices to buy gas. We are spending so much on the war where that money would have been spent for development and creating jobs so that the economy will do well. War or no war we have to face this situation.

Shammi, if you listen to Nadaraja you may end being a Madaraja!

Like Sam says it the same all over the world. The only problem in SL

is salaries are not increased to ease people`s living standards.

Yes, It is nothing to do with GOSL.It is the world market and prices are still going up and it will go up many times

before the end of this year. What we have to do is find alternatives and also encourage public economizing and preserving cooked food .

This Government have a good reply to all problem is that `We have nothing to do with world market` this is the easy way to escape and talk about liberation of east and talk about unnecessary things instead of peaple`s problems. 1 kg dal Rs.220 cook some rice and eath with dal will cost morethan 1 day`s salary of a common citizen of mahainda`s government.

Government should find a solution to fuel crises that rises time to time otherwise poeple of sl to die...

  • 1 Jul 2008 10:54:20 GMT

GOSL will not be able to find a solution on it`s own. This is a common problem to all countries. What the GOSL can do is to reduce wastage and make people aware of the situation. If the salaries increase the problem may resolve on short term but in the longer run the inflation will rise again cos the demand will be more than the supply. More money the consumer have more they consume. So in short if the prices to come down the supply should be increased. But Gas and Oil supply is not within any one. Not even the most powerful nation in the world USA can do anything about it. They consume the most oil and gas in the world. If they reduce consumption will see a difference. But that we will never see in the near future. Oil will go up USD 170 or more end of this year.

If it is of any consolation to you guys, the average citizen in the western world also feels the squeeze.

The only difference is that in the west you replace expensive food items by cheaper ones whereas in SL you might have to skip a meal on a regular basis or from time to time, depending on your situation.
